Notre envolée pour Mandalay était assez tôt en matinée...notre guide nous a rencontré à 5 h 15 du matin pour nous reconduire à l'aéroport...le Sherpa était pas trop réveillé...à notre arrivée à l'aéroport de Mandalay, nous nous sommes dirigés vers la ville d'Amarapura qui se situe en route pour Mandalay...à Amarapura nous avons visité une monastère bouddhiste, Maha Ganayon Kyaung, où plus de 1,000 moines y trouvent résidence...nous avons assisté à leur dernier repas de la journée vers 11 h...un bizarre, car je sentais définitivement que l'on s'immisçait dans leurs vies privées...tout près du monastère, il existe le plus long pont en bois de teck, le pont U Bein...plus de 1.2 km...après une bonne marche sur le pont, nous nous sommes dirigés vers le restaurant pour un superbe repas...
Après le repas, nous avons visité quelques temples et pagodes...une pagode qui était assez intéressante à visiter fût la pagode du Mahamuni Bouddha...une statue de Bouddha qui continue à grossir, car les pèlerins y sont constamment à ajouter des feuilles d'or sur la statue...ce temple abrite aussi de fameuses statues khmères en bronze datant du 13e ou 14e siècle, ayant des pouvoirs magiques...elles ont une histoire assez particulière pour avoir fait partie de trésor de guerre de plusieurs conquérants et avoir été transportées partout en Asie du Sud-Est...puis une visite à la pagode Kuthodaw qui contient 729 dalles de marbre où y sont inscrits les textes du canon bouddhique theravāda...si on veut, la plus grosse bible du monde...chaque dall abrite sous un stûpa...nous avons fini notre journée avec la visite d'une autre pagode au sommet de la montagne pour assister à un superbe coucher de soleil...
Au cours de mes visites dans les temples j'ai vu plusieurs Bouddha allongés et Bouddha dormants...et j'ai aussi eu la malchance d'engagé un Sherpa dormant...et je suis demeuré plus de 5 minutes dans le corridor de l'hôtel à Mandalay à cogner sur la porte pour réveiller mon Sherpa et regagner accès à ma chambre...peut-être je devrais considérer louer une chambre séparée pour le Sherpa...

Our flight to Mandalay was quite early in the morning...we met our guide at 5:15 am to drive us to the airport...the Sherpa was not too awake...after landing at the Mandalay airport, we headed to the city of Amarapura which is on the way to Mandalay...in Amarapura we visited a Buddhist monastery, Maha Ganayon Kyaung, where more than 1,000 monks reside...we were there in time to see them having their last meal of the day at 11 am...it was a bit weird, because I definitely felt that we were invading their privacy...I hope the tour companies pay them good money, because this is a regular stop for all the tourists...near the monastery lies the longest bridge in teak wood in the word, the U Bein Bridge...over 1.2 km...after a nice walk on bridge, we headed to the restaurant for a great traditional meal...
After lunch, we visited a few temples and pagodas...a pagoda which was quite interesting to visit was the Mahamuni Buddha pagoda...there resides a statue of Buddha which continues to build up, as the pilgrims are constantly adding gold leaves on the statue...this temple also houses the famous bronze Khmer statues dating from the 13th or 14th century...they apparently have magical powers...they have a rather special history as they have been moving between the war chests of several conquerors and have been transported across South East Asia...then a visit to the Kuthodaw pagoda Which houses 729 slabs of marble on which are inscribed the texts of Theravada Buddhist canon...you can say it's like, the thickest bible in the world...each slab lies under a stupa...we ended our day with a visit to another pagoda, at the top of the mountain, to watch a beautiful sunset...
During my visits to the temples, I saw several reclining Buddhas and sleeping Buddhas...and I also had the misfortune to hire a sleeping Sherpa...I ended up having to spend more than 5 minutes in the corridor of the hotel in Mandalay, pounding on the door, to wake my Sherpa and regain access to my room...maybe it's for me to splurge and rent a separate room for the Sherpa...
